Abstract

The discovery of the forum of Iulia Libica (Llívia, Girona) and the initial excavations undertaken there allow us to appreciate the meaning of this monument located in the Pyrenees valley of Cerdanya. The aim of this paper is to present a new forum in the Hispania Citerior, disclose the chronological framework of its construction, and evaluate in value the scarce but significant marble sculpture fragments discovered so far. An archaeometric study of the sculpture fragments is presented, together with a first iconographic interpretation, which allows us to contextualize to the initial moment of the forum. It is hoped that future excavations will complete the remaining forum buildings, confirm dating and provide new data on the sculpture’s iconography, marble origins and their representative functions.
