Abstract
This article analyses the main results of the first campaign of excavations carried out in the military zone of San Juan del Viso hill in 2017, and introduces the just finished 2018 campaign. It focuses on stratigraphic analysis and ceramic materials to understand the origin, development and abandon of the first Roman city of Complutum. Two archaeological units allowed us to corroborate the photointerpretation done on the hill, where the differential growth of cultivated cereal showed the orthogonal plan of the city, with a NW-SE orientation. The foundations of buildings discovered on these units suggest that the city also extended southward, with a total surface of at least 35 ha.
