Abstract

The study of the interaction between the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula, the Gulf of Lyon and the Italian Peninsula during the Early Iron Age implies a review of its material culture. The analysis of the circulation of these elements allows an understanding of the phenomenon underlying the dissemination of ideas and ways of behaving. Of the three territories, the suite of objects that seems to have the greatest circulation is Italian fibulae. The paper presents a critical review of the dossier and compares it with other metal productions and the mechanisms for their distribution to the west. The result, over and above the surprising reduction in the catalogue of fibulae truly originating in the territory under analysis, characterizes a local dynamic for the circulation of goods, ideas and people throughout the Western Gulf of Lyon and reveals that Italian fibulae fit in as a more widespread reality of contacts in this territory only after the second half of the 7th century and the 6th century B.C.
