Zambujal 2013, Teil 2. Magnetische Prospektionen

Abstract

Agricultural development outside the Zambujal archaeological reserve required a magnetic prospection in summer 2013.Two measuring areas were examined with caesium magnetometer. Some archaeologically relevant findings had been destroyed before the prospecting. In the remaining areas prehistoric trench systems were found in both areas. Possibly traces of a wooden palisade could be made visible by means of a trench by an excavator.
Circular anomalies can be interpreted as burial sites. A variety of positive anomalies can be called pits and pit complexes. The idea of seeing Zambujal only as a fortress was expanded on the basis of new discoveries about the presence of settlement traces and probably the necropolis. In order to conceive the expansion of the place, a continuation of the prospection would be of great importance.
