Abstract

The oppidum of Monte Bernorio is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Late Prehistory in the north of the Iberian Peninsula. Archaeological field campaigns have taken place uninterruptedly since 2004. They have been key to understand the development of the defensive structures, the urbanism, and the ways of life of a settlement that was inhabited since the Late Bronze Age until the Late Iron Age. Monte Bernorio was conquered and destroyed during Octavius Augustus’ military campagins against the Cantabri and Asturs. After these campaigns a roman castellum was established on the site.
