Abstract

The question about the place, where the senate of the municipium muniguense gathered
for its sessions is in this contribution firstly narrowed down by the way of a civilized guess
and secondly answered in a sense, that it can be identified with that place formerly indicated
by Th. Hauschild as a curia. With its 44 reconstructed seats possibly not all senators could
be accommodated. But one has to take into account on one hand the existence of senatores
pedarii, and on the other, that seats were possibly only needed for the quorum. If this is true,
the curia is situated in the forum’s northern wing and was certainly part of the first forumplanning,
but built only during the second, Flavian phase having the forum-terrace been
heaped up in Neronian times. The datings fit perfectly to Vespasian’s grant of Latin right to
all Hispania. If the newly read (by A. U. Stylow) constructional inscription – of which at least
three copies existed - is related to this younger phase, instead of the older one, an unforced
conformity with the archaeological record is achieved.
