Abstract

To complete a sub-project of the excavations in the necropolis of Dahshur, work in the burial ground of the pyramid town of the Red Pyramid was resumed in the years 2022 to 2024. Crucial new insights into the chronology, the spectrum of tomb types and the social texture of this cemetery were gained. The discovery of a mastaba tomb with painted decoration significantly increases the hitherto small number of decorated tombs in Dahshur. Finds of ritual deposits, especially an intact deposit of execration figurines, are of exceptional interest. New findings on construction technology and logistics were also secured. The excavations now make it possible to profile the community of the pyramid town historically, demographically, socially, economically and culturally.
