Abstract

The research project focuses on the strigil findings from the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece. In a comprehensive analysis between 2020 and 2023, 81 objects were identified as strigils and scientifically catalogued. The study of the finds from Olympia shows a wide variety of strigil forms from the Greek cultural area from the 5th to the 1st century BC. Typological, chronological and topographical analyses provide insights into the dating and origin as well as the use and deposition of the objects in the sanctuary. Particular attention is paid to the discussion of dedications of strigils and their significance in the cultural-historical context of Olympia.
