Messene in the last years of Augustus

Abstract
A recently published inscription of Messene (SEG 65, 289) honors the quaestor Achaeae P. Cornelius Scipio. It is here identified as the lower part of an inscription published by Anastasios Orlandos in 1965 (SEG 23, 206). The completed text praises Scipio for celebrating the recent successes of Gaius Caesar in the East, and honors Scipio himself as a savior and benefactor of the city. An appendix discusses an earthquake at Messene that occurred late in the reign of Augustus.
