About the Journal
The journal »Mitteilungen des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts, Athenische Abteilung« presents recent research results from Greece and its neighboring regions to a broad specialist audience. The contributions are diverse in terms of content and methodology and cover the periods from the early Aegean Bronze Age to Late Antiquity.
All articles undergo a double-blind peer-review process and are evaluated in terms of editorial and production aspects on behalf of the editorial department. The editors base their acceptance decisions on these assessments.

This 553-page double volume comprises twelve articles covering the period from the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age to the Roman Empire and Early Byzantine period. Geographically, the research focuses on the Aegean (e.g., Astypalaia, Aegina, Crete, and Samos) and mainland Greece (Athens, Olympia, and Epidaurus). The topics include Neolithic and Early Bronze Age sites, trade networks of the Middle Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age ritual iconography, archaic tomb architecture in the Kerameikos of Athens, and spolia and bronzes from the Athenian Acropolis. Other contributions examine votive offerings and their contexts, the genesis and use of the Heraion of Samos in the Imperial period, and the unclear Roman phase of the theater of Epidaurus. The contributions regularly focus on the connection between material culture and social, religious, or economic dimensions, for example through analyses of urban planning, sacred architecture, or workshop organization.
