About the Journal

The “Römische Mitteilungen” of the German Archaeological Institute is an annual journal. Since 1829 the journal and its predecessor, the “Bullettino dell’Instituto di Corrispondenza Archeologica”, have promoted an international scholarly discourse on the archaeology, art, and architecture of the ancient cultures of the Italic peninsula and surrounding regions. The journal sees itself as a platform and international forum for the presentation and discussion of material culture from prehistoric times to the Early Middle Ages, with a traditionally special focus on classical antiquity. Contributions range from individual studies to overviews of excavation results, all of which have undergone a double blind peer-review process.

From volume 127 onwards, the Römische Mitteilungen will be published online and as an Open Access resource at the same time as the printed edition. This means that all articles can always be accessed online in the iDAI.world as interactive texts, which are not only provided with illustrations and footnotes, but are also directly linked to the DAI databases such as Arachne ( iDAI.objects), Zenon ( iDAI.bibliography) or the gazetteer (iDAI.gazetteer). In the online version, there is also the option of linking additional, non-printed or even non-printable supplements such as 3D models or research databases. All relevant information for a scientific citation, including persistent identifiers such as URNs and DOIs, is included in all three output forms (print version, PDF or online viewer); the online version also has citable paragraph numbering. Furthermore, authorship is possible using identifiers such as OCRID or ROR-IDs, and scholarly dissemination can be measured through DOIs.
