Abstract

This contribution presents a bibliometric and historiographical analysis of the scientific content of the journal Madrider Mitteilungen over six decades, from 1960 to 2020. This paper describes how the journal was created, how it has been distributed and how it has been received. It also describes the evolution over time of the style of the journal, and how the editorial work has been managed. Moreover, a statistical analysis has been carried out to explore all the contributions published in the journal. The results of this analysis demonstrate the participation of the authors by gender and nationality, as well as the institutions they belong to. It also shows the evolution over time of the studies carried out in the Iberian Peninsula and in Northwestern Africa by the researchers of the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid and by many collaborators who have had some relationship with the Institute. The analysis also includes the topics, the historical periods and the study regions of the contributions, as well as how all this has changed over time. Finally, the results of this study are compared with other bibliometric studies presented in other archaeological journals published in the Iberian Peninsula.
