Abstract
During a recent project for re-assembling parts of the Sacred Hall in Priene some observations were made at the lower parts of the walls. These are useful for specific statements concerning assembling of the ashlars and the vertical connection of the stones by dowels – made of wood and metal as well. We are able to determine in which work stages dowel holes in which sizes were crafted into the surface of the stones, and how the blocks were fixed afterwards in detail. The assembling took place in diverse directions at the same time. Finally, a model will be offered to explain the steps during the plundering in Late Antique Byzantine times, which will give us a better understanding for the quantity of the still existing ashlars.
