Abstract
Fieldwork has been in progress in the Kibyratis, as the western part of the Province of Burdur is called, since 2008. The aim of the project is to discover more about the history and the material culture of this inhabited region, which lies between Lydia, Phrygia, Pisidia, Lycia and Caria. In view of the size of the region to be explored, three areas have been singled out for survey work; these lie in the south, the centre and the north of the region. In the southern and northern zones of the Kibyratis, research has focused primarily on Archaic find sites, and in the process we have in all probability identified the Lydian settlement pre-existing Kibyra, which was founded in Hellenistic times by Pisidians. The find sites in the central zone, by contrast, have yielded information about the Hellenistic and Imperial-era settlement structures.
