Kymè d’Éolide, cité libre et démocratique, et le pouvoir des stratèges

Abstract
A fragmentary decree from Kyme (recently published in EA 37, 2004; SEG 54, 1229) is discussed on the basis of new restorations. The Kymaeans address their strategoi with a series of demands in order to guarantee the security and independence of the city as well as the protection of democracy. The last lines are already known thanks to I.Kyme 12 of which a second example was published in 1998. Both parts of the inscription are combined and the document is republished in its entirety. According to the paleography the text should be almost contemporaneous with the decrees for Philetairos (SEG 50, 1195 [ca. 270 BC]), and shows the troubled environment in which the cities of Western Asia Minor found themselves at the beginning of the 3rd century BC.
