A Hellenistic Cult-Association

Resumen

An inscribed stele of the second century BC from near Koloe in Lydia contains a decree of a cult-association by which the members honor and praise a certain Stratonike, their late priestess. The association was originally formed in memory of members of Stratonike’s family, and is centered on the family heroon. As well as honoring Stratonike, the members console her two surviving sons on her «apotheosis». A related stele lists the members of the association, here called synbolêphoroi («contributors»). The membership reflects a rural community scattered over many villages and of mixed origin, partly Macedonian and partly local.
