Abstract
Among the western Mediterranean territories, the Iberian Peninsula has brought to light the largest number of inscriptions related to Roman provincial governors of the republican period. In addition, it is possible that provincial governors introduced in Hispania public inscriptions on hard surfaces. This paper assesses the typology of this important epigraphic material. Special attention is paid to the similarities and dissimilarities with Republican epigraphy from other territories and to its influence upon the indigenous epigraphic practices.
