Abstract
P.CtYBR inv. 1606, which was published too as SB XII 10929, contains an imperial constitution published by the prefect M. Petronius Mamertinus concerning the jurisdiction of the govenor. The constitution, which may have been issued by Hadrian, refines the rights and responsibilities in legal matters of the praeses provinciae. In ten paragraphs, the criminal offenses that could be tried only before the governor are laid out, while in all remaining cases other judges are also permitted jurisdiction. Referral to the imperial court was an option in principle, although it required that a formal appeal be made and one third of the disputed amount be given as surety. The unusual layout, with a single heading spanning two columns and paragraphs defined by ekthesis, may reflect the original format of the decree, which was likely published at Rome on a bronze tablet.
