Abstract
This edition presents an ensemble of ten altars erected by beneficiarii consularis. They were found in November 2007 in the north-east of the canabae of Mogontiacum – Mainz near the Roman city wall on the site of the present State Chancellery of the Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate near the banks of the Rhine. The mostly complete inscriptions from the end of the 2nd and the first half of the 3rd century AD are set in context by discussing them in relation to the epigraphic tradition of the governor’s seat, the province of Germania superior and the documentation for beneficiarii consularis. They enrich the knowledge of the topography of Roman Mainz and offer new insights into the development of the Roman language, the religions in the empire and its military and administrative history.
