Abstract

Publication of two inscriptions from the 2nd cent. BC found at Yaylakale, a mountain top situated in the Eastern part of the Yüntdağ range, which limits the plain of the Kaikos river to the South. One gives the list of the first members of an association of Asclepiasts initiated by an Attalid phrourarchos. The other contains the Lex sacra regulating the conditions of cultic purity for the entry into the sanctuary founded by the same commander. The phrourion, located at a position of outstanding strategic importance at the pass governing the direct route from Pergamon to the plain of northern Lydia with the centers of Apollonis and Thyateira will have covered the Attalid heartland against attacks from the Seleucids in the 3rd cent. BC and should have resumed a comparable function in the war against Aristonikos.
