Pompeius, Cassius und Augustus. Bemerkungen zum imperium maius
https://doi.org/10.34780/ednc-9uf2
Abstract
The article deals with the key objections recent research has expressed against the transmission of a superordinate right of command over the provinces (imperium maius) to Augustus in 23 BC. In the center of the discussion are the imperia of Cassius in 43 BC and especially of Pompey in 67 BC. Analogies are drawn between both imperia, which raises the question whether the design of province-related superposition of the imperium, as it was employed in 43 BC, could already have applied for the imperium of Pompey in 67 BC. In conclusion, the relevance of new sources for the assessment of what happened in 23 BC will be discussed.
