Abstract
The study of certain aspects of the institutions of the Aeolian cities (magistracies, proclamation of civic honours) provides an opportunity to examine the import of the notion of an «institutional koine». By adopting a regional focus, one realises that, if the cities conformed to the dominant democratic model, there were features specific to the Aeolis, which unified the region to a certain degree (nature of the eponymous offices, role of the strategoi), but also observes the maintenance of local particularities in each city. These allow one to propose that certain honorary decrees for foreigners, which have been found in various cities of the Greek world and the origin of which is debated, be attributed to certain cities (most notably Kyme).
