Preliminary archaeomalacological analysis of a Starčevo culture refuse pit excavated at Alsónyék-Bátaszék archaeological site

Rescue excavations were carried out between 2006 and 2009 near Alsónyék-Bátaszék in the southern part of Hungary, Sárköz region, which revealed archaeological phenomena from various periods. Amongst these, the earliest finds were dated back to the 6th millennium BC. The partial archaeomalacological analysis of a huge waste pit belonging to one of the earliest settlements of the site was carried out, which contains the taxonomic identification and morphometric measurements (height and length) of the specimens, as well as the geochemical analyses. The aim of this study was to understand the contemporaneous environment of the settlement and to reconstruct man - environment interactions.
