Die antiken Sarkophagreliefs
The series Die antiken Sarkophagreliefs is a scientific-archaeological corpus with the aim of presenting all sarcophagi from the imperial period in order to open up the rich repertoire of pictorial themes of this period. The aim is to publish the city Roman, Attic and Asia Minor pictorial sarcophagi. The basis of the more recent volumes is a concise description of the sarcophagi, combined with bibliographical references and high-quality photographs. Information on the specific spatial context, the circumstances of discovery, burial and reception as well as inscriptions with translations round off the documentation. The presentation focuses on questions of dating, but also typology, style and iconography.
