Résumé

The Roman city of Conimbriga is often considered to have suffered an irreversible decline towards the end of the fifth century. In fact, changes are perceptible, but common to other urban sites. Evidence of later
occupations used to be dismissed as vaguely residual, however a number of new features confirm not only
a widely spread early medieval settlement, but also the maintenance of a quite significant regional prominence. Recent and ongoing research, based on stratigraphic evidence, material parallels and radiocarbon dating, demonstrates coherent medieval activity at Condeixe. The present paper sums up some of the new key proposals and corresponding references, some of which are still in print at this moment.
