Neues zur galläkischen Kriegerstatue von Villar de Barrio (Provinz Orense)

Abstract

By chance the drawing of the statue of a Gallaecian warrior from Villar de Barrio has been found in the archive of the ›Real Academia de la Historia‹ in Madrid which makes its archaeological and artistic classification possible. Several details suggest that the sculpture belongs to a late type of warrior statue which dates to the Roman Imperial Period. The statue seems to have been erected in the 1830’s to mark the border between two villages.
