Zur Rekonstruktion der kaiserzeitlichen Halle am Nordmarkt in Milet

Abstract

Since its publication in 1922 the reconstruction of the so called North Market by A. von Gerkan has remained unchallenged. There is, however, reason to doubt von Gerkan’s reconstruction of the imperial phase of the building. The author argues that the front of the eastern section of the complex that was erected in the 2nd cent. A.D. is to be restored with full columns rather than with a screen wall with half-columns attached to it. Finally, further consequences for the urban landscape of Miletus in imperial times are discussed.
