Abstract
In the course of field research in the northern part of Kibyratis, a rock-cut tomb near the Turkish village of Alanköy has been documented. Of particular interest is the relief carved beside the entrance and showing a leaping lion as well as three ibexes; analysis of the relief draws on Anatolian and Greek lion depictions. With respect to posture, the closest parallel to the lion is to be found on what is known as the Kybele Shrine of Sardis, for which reason a Lydian background as well as a dating to the first half or even the first quarter of the 6th century B.C. are proposed for both the relief and the rock-cut tomb at Alanköy.
