Abstract
A new research project in 2015 has started to explore the ancient city of Doliche which is currently located at the outskirts of Gaziantep in South-East Turkey in 2015. In antiquity, Doliche was a small town of northern Syria. So far, it is mainly known for being the home of the god Jupiter Dolichenus, whose main sanctuary is located on Dülük Baba Tepesi, a mountain overlooking the city. The new project, which is generously supported by the German Research Council, aims to investigate the urbanistic development, urban life, and material culture of the city in a holistic and diachronic perspective. An intensive survey and geophysical prospections aim to explore the extent and the layout of ancient Doliche. Excavations focus on a public bath building of the Roman Imperial period and a late antique basilica.
