Abstract

The paper presents several inscribed sling bullets that relate to the famous campaign of Ilerda in 49 BC, where Julius Caesar was opposed to the legates of Pompey. We emphasize the discovery of Picamoixons (Valls Tarragona), which, with its 82 inscribed pieces, is one of the largest collections of its kind found in the Roman world. The presence of Legion XII bullets, along with others of Pompey and others with the legend SCAE, allows us to establish a clear historical context. To identify the unknown person Scae – – –, we suggest the name P. Mucius Scaevola, who was the hypothetical deductor of the colony Tarraco.
