Panagitsa near Elateia 1979–1981: Grave goods and burial customs in a classical burial ground near Elateia

Abstract Additional systematic excavations were carried out in autumn 1981 in the ancient necropolis at Panagitsa, which was disturbed during construction work in 1979 and documented in a rescue excavation. In addition to the six previously known graves, there were 14 more of different designs. Ph. Dakoronia studied the six tombs from the Geometric period, whereas the remaining ones from the late 5th and early 4^th centuries B.C. are presented here. The graves were oriented uniformly from east to west. Among the finds were numerous, often decorated clay vessels of different types. The goods furthermore comprised a number of male and female terracotta busts showing their arms down to the waist.
