Über dieses Buch
The Urban Boom of Hispania and Africa cannot be placed
within one period nor in one region. Each region has its
own development, depending on the period of conquest
and the manner and speed of integration into the Roman
Empire. The aim of this paper is to understand the
different periods of construction and remodeling of
urban monuments, investigating the amphitheater, the
circus, and the theater. For the regions as a whole, the
major periods of Urban Boom will be established. Moreover,
the paper will take the municipalization of these
regions into account in order to understand the relation
between these two urban developments. The assumption
is often made that monumentalization and municipalization
go hand in hand. Either communities constructed
monuments to gain a promotion or they constructed
monuments befitting their new status. This paper will
look into this supposed link, and aims to understand the
factors behind the Urban Booms of Hispania and Africa.
