Synopsis
Sarcophagi are a type of monument belonging to the heart of art and culture in both Imperial Rome and the Early Christian and Byzantine Empires. This volume of the Repertorium der christlich-antiken Sarkophage publishes all the examples from Constantinople, the capital of the empire, together with those from Asia Minor and the provinces of Syria, Palaestina and Arabia, for the first time. This catalogue includes detailed descriptions and numerous illustrations. Introductions to each group of material provide a broader context.
