Synopsis
The study of the group of relief-decorated Christian sarcophagi from antiquity is one of the central tasks of late antique archaeology. This fourth volume of the German Archaeological Institute's repertory series documents all sarcophagi and sarcophagus fragments from the late antique provinces of Hispania and Mauretania Tingitana, today's Spain, Portugal and Morocco. A catalogue with descriptions and an accompanying photographic discussion is supplemented by an extended commentary section that deals with the topics of provenance and workshop groups, while also taking into account cultural contacts, and opens up further discussion.
