About the Journal

Archäologische Mitteilungen aus Iran und Turan (AMIT) is an interdisciplinary scientific journal published annually since 1996 by the Eurasia Department of the German Archaeological Institute (EA DAI) and is peer-reviewed. It is the continuation of the journal "Archäologische Mitteilungen aus Iran", originally published by Ernst Herzfeld 1929-1938 and renewed from 1968 to 1995 as "Archäologische Mitteilungen aus Iran, Neue Folge" and published by the German Archaeological Institute, Tehran departement.

The journal is dedicated to the archaeology of Iran and Turan in the broadest sense, including Iran, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, but also China and Japan. All periods of prehistory are covered, from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages. Studies on modern history, ethnography, archaeometallurgy, bioarchaeology, environmental history, geoarchaeology and other interdisciplinary topics are also accepted if they are relevant to archaeology. Articles will be published in English, French or German. An English summary as well as a summary in Russian (if the former Soviet Union is concerned) or in Farsi (if it concerns Iran) is a matter of course. Summaries in other languages can be added at the request of the authors.

The aim of AMIT is to provide a journal in which members of the Eurasia Department of the German Archaeological Institute and scholars from across the international community can publish and discuss the archaeology, culture and history of these regions in a peer-reviewed forum. Submitted papers should essentially be evidence-based contributions presenting original research findings. This also includes analytical reviews of literature presenting recent discoveries, reviews dealing with the latest topical issues in archaeology, as well as information on new publications (book reviews) and the debates that accompany them.

The results published in our journal will hopefully attract the interest of international colleagues. We invite everyone to contribute and to do so professionally and scientifically.
